Domestic Violence Specialist

Shift Worker (less than 20 hours/week)

All shifts available

$15/hour

 

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Provide crisis intervention to clients in shelter, as well as to potential intakes via crisis line.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Complete client intakes according to shelter policies and procedures.

2. Answer all crisis line calls as quickly as possible. Follow protocols for answering the crisis line and take messages for Team Staff.

3. Provides a supportive environment to clients at the shelter.

4. Maintain confidential client files.

5. Report suspicion of child abuse to a TEAM member immediately.

6. Notify local police and other authorities of emergency situations. When an emergency call is made, contact and report to the On Call Team Member as soon as possible.

7. Complete specific chores designed to assist in the general upkeep of the shelter facility and grounds.

8. Report and communicate any important and necessary information to the next shift or in the staff log. If information is important for Team Staff, Program Manager or Director, please place a note in the appropriate mailbox in addition to communicating in the staff log

9. Assure that shelter policies and procedures are followed at all times.

10. Identify problems or unmet needs to the Program Manager.

11. Attend monthly staff meetings, and participates in staff development activities.

12. Complete all necessary paperwork/required documentation as directed.

13. Work cooperatively with other staff members and volunteers to ensure conscientious and competent service delivery to shelter residents.

14. Certification in First Aid and CPR is required and may be provided by Safer Futures

15. Transport clients to and from their vehicles, goal related appointments, and scheduled weekly transports.

16. Comply with agency policies and procedures, COA regulations, federal and state requirements, and educational/certification/registry requirements.

17. Complete other tasks as assigned by Program Manager or Senior Domestic Violence Specialist.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Knowledge of the importance of empowerment and display caring, compassionate attitude.

2. Model open communication, fair and equitable treatment, management of conflicts and work in a team structure.

3. Understanding of domestic violence and trauma in the family and in the community.

4. Valid Ohio Driver’s License and ability to meet agency requirements for driving insurability.

5. Must be able to meet agency requirements for criminal back ground check (Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification & Investigation).

 

MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL/LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS: High school degree or equivalent, pursuing a degree in social work and /or related field experience.

 

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Experience in crisis intervention preferred.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to climb stairs, bend, and stretch above shoulder level. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
